We are in the middle of summer now and we Americans love to vacation during this time. It is the easiest time to take a week or so off from work and the kids are already out of school. If you haven’t vacationed yet, it’s time to hit the road! Road trips are the norm this summer because fewer people are flying and taking public transportation due to COVID-19. You may be ready to throw “social distancing” out the window and your family or friends in the car for a much-needed road trip. If so, this is the article for you!
Before you begin your road trip, make sure you have checked your emergency kit and traded out the winter road staples with summertime necessities. The following items are great suggestions to add to your emergency kit.
- Water – one gallon plus one bottle per person
- Snacks – non-perishables like energy bars, unsalted nuts, dried fruit
- Phone charger
- Face masks
- Hand sanitizer & wipes
- First aid kit
- Jumper cables or a portable battery charger
- Tire sealant & tire pressure gauge
- Flashlight or headlamp (hand-crank flashlights are best in case your battery is dead)
- Pocket knife/multi-tool
- Visibility equipment (flares/reflective hazard triangles)
- Extra fuses
- Tool kit (add commonly used tools like screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches)
- Duct tape
- Gloves
- Rags
I want you to travel safely and arrive at your destination without incident. Being prepared for the high summertime temperatures can ensure that you make it home from your trip with no delays
